National and Wisconsin Standards and Mandates
Both hospitals and public health agencies have standards or requirements related to community health improvement processes.  Not-for-profit hospitals are required under the Affordable Care Act to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment and execute an Implementation Strategy.  Health departments in Wisconsin are required by statute to regularly assess the health of the community and involve key policymakers and the general public in determining and developing a community health improvement plan.   Health departments seeking national voluntary accreditation must meet the standards described by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
