Community Health Improvement in Action (CHIA) is happy to announce its latest tool, the CHIA Sample Dashboard for Measuring the Progress and Impact of Alcohol-Related Initiatives. This resource is a template that helps organize and present data in a way that is easy to read, track, and understand.  An Excel file with multiple tabs, the dashboard serves not only as a reporting mechanism, but also as a mini-training in presenting data effectively in Excel.  Charts and tables follow best practices for visualizing data, and detailed instructions on each tab make it easy for users to adapt the dashboard to fit their local needs.

As a template, the dashboard can be used with any health focus area and with any indicators.  Since CHIA is alcohol-focused, the dashboard presents a limited number of representative alcohol-related indicators that were selected by a committee of subject matter experts (please see the Acknowledgements section in the Introduction tab of the dashboard).   We urge users to choose the indicators that best represent their local conditions and efforts.  For a comprehensive overview of alcohol-related strategies and indicators, please see the CHIA Strategy Map for Preventing and Reducing Alcohol Misuse.

To introduce users to the dashboard, 4 YouTube tutorials are currently available on our website's
CHIA Resources page, each 5-20 minutes in length.  More tutorials will be added over the next few weeks.

We need your feedback on the dashboard!  We are currently scheduling online feedback groups in December to evaluate this tool.  Please take this
Doodle poll to indicate your availability.  All feedback group participants will receive a one-on-one session with the CHIA Project Manager on applying the dashboard to their local CHIP work. Before attending the feedback group, you must spend at least an hour exploring the dashboard and entering your local data, and you'll want to either read the directions or watch the tutorials before inputting your local data.  Your feedback on the dashboard will help us improve this tool before it is disseminated more widely in the spring of 2017.  Thank you for your participation!

All CHIA tools and tutorials are available on the CHIA Resources page under the Alcohol-Related Resources tab at Please share them with your coalition partners.
